About The Program >  Underwriting Rules

Underwriting Rules

  • The auto must be a private-passenger type vehicle considered collectible in nature (sorry, no street rods, kit or replicars). Note: Open bodied and open wheeled autos -- for example, a T-bucket -- are typically ineligible (with the sole exception being a factory-stock Plymouth Prowler).

  • Each licensed driver residing in your household and/or listed in Part IV - Drivers on the Select application must have an auto exclusively available for his or her daily use besides the Select-insured auto. All daily use autos must be no more than ten model years old. A copy of the relevant application wording is here.

  • The Select-insured auto must not be used for general transportation or commuting. Carefully read the ''Express Warranties and Limitations of Use'' listed on the Select Auto application. We list these warranties here for the Limited Pleasure Use plan and here for the Concours plan.

  • Only one driving violation per person is allowed. A maximum of ''two violations'' per household applies. Questionable driving records will be accepted at Leland-West's discretion only. Eligible drivers must have at least 9 years driving experience. Driver exclusion forms are accepted at Leland-West's discretion only.

  • The Select Automobile Insurance policy is a ''named driver'' policy. Insurance coverage is in force only when a ''named driver'' listed on your Select-application and approved by Leland-West in writing is driving a Select-insured auto. Failure to report any drivers to Leland-West in writing before or after a Select Auto Insurance Policy is issued is misrepresentation. It will result in denial of any and all claims involving unreported drivers and policy cancellation.

  • The Select-insured auto must be kept in a locked garage accessible only to you or members of your immediate household. In certain high-risk areas, some high value autos may require a hidden transmitter alarm.

  • Any modification of the Select-insured auto, except to restore it back to original condition, is generally not acceptable. Complete details of any changes must be submitted along with your completed application.
